Keeping your lawn green can seem like an impossible task, especially when you live in a hot area. The mistake that most people make when trying to maintain their yard is they wait until the grass is already dying to try and fix it. Keeping your lawn green is a year-round process, and your efforts in the cooler times of the year will pay off when the summer heat hits. Following these three tips to help keep your yard beautiful all year round.
Tip #1 – Mow Your Grass High

When mowing your grass, it is often tempting to mow it on the shortest setting because then you will not have to mow it for a while after that. The problem with keeping your grass very short is that it allows the sun’s hot rays to heat all the way to the roots of the grass. This makes it so there is no shade to protect the grass from dying. If you mow your grass on the longest setting than the shade from the blades of grass will keep the roots shaded and protected from the sun. It will also help lock in the moisture to keep your grass green and luscious all year round.

Tip #2 – Correct Watering

The time of day that you water your grass can impact the growth and health of your grass significantly. The best time of the day to water your grass is in the morning. If you water it in the morning that the water has time to seep down into the roots before the sun dries up the water. If you wait until the sun is out and it is hot than the water will only get the surface of the grass and not the roots. If the roots do not get water than the grass will die and fade.

Tip #3 – Fertilize

As mentioned earlier, fertilization is also something that needs to be done year round. The most important time to fertilize is before it gets really hot outside because then the grass has time to grow very healthy before the summer hits. This way when it does get really hot outside, the grass is more resilient to the heat because it is strong and healthy. Mornings are also the best time to fertilize because the fertilizer has time to sink down into the roots. Depending on the health of your lawn, you should be fertilizing 2-3 times a year.
